After winning D-10, Prep’s soccer season ends in 2-0 loss against Pittsburgh Central Catholic

PrepSoccer2014The Rambler soccer team’s season came to an end on Tuesday against Pittsburgh Central Catholic. The cold weather combined with a constant drizzle kept the Ramblers two goals behind the Vikings. Prep fought hard the entire game, but  they were unable to put any shots past Central Catholic’s goalie. Even the massive force of Prep fans were not enough to get the Ramblers past the first round of the PIAA playoffs.
The spirits were high and the confidence was held by all of the Ramblers after a comeback win over McDowell last week. Senior Sean Reed had the crowd going nuts after his penalty kick that he insisted on taking late in the second half. The ball took two quick hops through the defenders before it found the back left side of the net. Sean also assisted Keegan Farver on Prep’s first goal to tie the Ramblers up with the Trojans.
Although Prep wasn’t able to advance any further, they brought back the D-10 title after losing it two years in a row. Fortunately, the Ramblers had a very young team this year. Key seniors that will graduate this year are goalie Oliver Wiesner, midfielder Sean Reed, and defender Steven Brown.
The Rambler asked Oliver how he felt now that his career in Prep soccer is over. “I’m extremely happy that we were able to beat McDowell in D-10 after two devastating losses to them in the past couple years,” Oliver said. “It was a great way to end out my soccer career.”
Sean Reed was asked how he felt that he was able to make a difference off the bench, “[I] loved it, loved every second of it. I made a difference and that’s all the coaches could ask of me,” Sean said. “They gave me the opportunity, and I capitalized. People call me ‘superstar’ now, but I’m really nothing special. I just stepped up when my team needed me most.”
The Ramblers had a great season, but it’s too bad they weren’t able to advance further into the playoffs. The team is still young and so Prep looks to claim the D-10 title again next year and make another playoff run.
