What are your plans for college?

What+are+your+plans+for+college%3F

In answering this week’s question, seniors wrote about their plans for next year and juniors wrote about some of their prospective options for the future.

Colin Bish

As of now, only two majors are my main priority, those being sports journalism and sports broadcasting. As a lot of people know, I love sports, but playing them professionally has never had the appeal to it for me as much as talking and/or debating about it. Two colleges, Northwestern and Syracuse, are really good for those types of majors, but both are extremely expensive. If I were to get enough scholarships to pay off most of the tuition, I would. However, I have my eyes locked on St. Bonaventure. It’s in New York, not to expensive, and has exactly the future I’m looking for.

Landon Kalie

I’m playing on going to college at Edinboro University. I’m going into teaching mainly for social studies. My plan is to become a teacher and hopefully coach on the side or something like that. For me, it was something I’ve always wanted to do, and I’m glad I’ve made that decision. I’m definitely excited to see what the future holds.

Brian Lee

I am going to be in State College, Pa., for the next four years at Penn State University. I will be pursuing a major in immunology and infectious disease. Ironically enough, I chose this educational track before COVID-19 was even an issue, so I’m excited to see how the field is going to grow now in both interest and funding. We’re finally starting to recognize the probability of random viruses originating from places like icebergs, and I’m excited to investigate them. My bachelor’s degree in immunology and infectious disease will serve as an interesting pre-requisite degree for medical school, where I hope to study to become a dermatologist. I’m excited for the future!

Some majors I’ve been looking at are either criminal justice or possibly finance to get into real estate eventually. If I go in to criminal justice the ultimate goal would be to become a police officer. However, I can’t join the police academy till I’m 21. After looking at colleges I’m pretty dead set on going right down the road from Prep to Gannon. It makes the most sense financially and academically, and staying home might not sound like fun, but it’s a lot smarter in the long run. I don’t plan on living at home, but I will definitely stay in Erie for a little bit.

Anthony Nunez

For college, I am most likely going to Gannon University. It’s mainly cheaper than my other options, and I got scholarships to go there. Price is a huge factor in my choice. As for a major, I am going in undecided, but I am interested in a political science or international relations degree, or both. I recently took a U.S. Government and Politics class at Gannon, and it was very interesting to me. I had already been interested in those majors, but that class sent me over the edge for lack of a better term. The only issue with those degrees is that I don’t see where I would go with those degrees. Well, there are clear routes, but I’m not sure if I want to pursue them, and I fear it’s just something I enjoy learning about and should do on my own time.

Philip Pedano

I will be attending Penn State Behrend for at least two years and then deciding after my sophomore year to switch to Penn State main campus or stay at Behrend. I am going into college undecided, but I would love to major in something with sports. I have loved sports my entire life, so I figure might as well make a career out of sports.

Will Peterson

For college I am considering studying history. I find it very interesting to see the different policies countries had and how those policies affected the people and their relationship to other countries. For this I am considering going to Syracuse or Allegheny College.

Jonathan Zambroski

My plan for next year is to attend Edinboro University and to major in secondary education to teach high school social studies. I really did not know what I wanted to do until last week I made my official decision for my major. I have to get my major changed from pre-chiropractic, but once I get there and can talk to someone to figure it out, it’ll all work out. And I’m hoping that everything is somewhat back to normal, so I can get a full college experience.

If you were looking at prospective college options today, where would you go, what would you major in, and why? Share your response in the comments.
