The NFL Draft took place this past weekend, and it didn’t disappoint. Each team in the NFL picked multiple players to help lead their franchise for years to come. Along with young stars being drafted, many trades went down on draft night, including star WR A.J. Brown being dealt to the Philadelphia Eagles. This week the draft has been a big topic around school, and many NFL fans were satisfied with their teams picks.
Over 260 players were selected in this year’s draft, and all of their lives will forever be changed. Here at Prep the football program has grown to be a powerhouse over the past couple of years. When student-athletes come to Prep to play football they set high standards for themselves, and some of those goals may include getting drafted in the NFL.
Some kids at Cathedral Prep talked about the experience of what it was like playing football and what it would be like to get drafted into the NFL.
“Playing football at Prep was so fun, and getting a scholarship to go play in college was a dream come true,” senior Caden Pustelak said. “To actually get drafted in the NFL would be insane. I couldn’t even put into words how crazy that would be.”
The NFL Draft is so much more than just a player being assigned to a new team. It’s the start of a new dream. These athletes work so hard to get to the NFL, and hearing their name be announced gives them new life and a new opportunity.
Some teachers around the building made small talk about their team’s draft picks as well, including social studies teacher and Dallas Cowboys fan Mr. Parsons.
“I really like the Cowboys pick,” Mr. Parsons said. “We needed to get younger on the line, and this guy looks like a beast.” The Cowboys selected tackle Tyler Smith from Tulsa in the first round.
The draft is all in all a great event for the world. While the NBA playoffs were taking place, it seemed as though the draft overtook the sports media for the weekend. It will be great to witness these young talented players make their mark on the football field.
