This week is the week of all weeks at Cathedral Prep. It is the week that students look forward too all year: McDowell Week.
McDowell Week is the time of the year when the Ramblers face their arch rivals from Millcreek in multiple sports. Prep begins McDowell Week with a game against the Trojans in soccer on Thursday, Oct. 3. Then to wrap up the week, the two schools’ football teams will meet each other on the gridiron at Gus Anderson Field on Friday, Oct. 4.
Senior football player and captain Billy Fessler spoke to The Rambler about the upcoming game.
Q: How do you think the team will hold up against up McDowell?
Fessler: Our defense has been very strong and our offense has been picking up, so I have confidence that we will do well.
Q: Do you think you can contain the stars of their team?
Fessler: They have good players but not like the players on our team. I’m not worried about containing any specific player on that team.
Q: Who do you think is going to have a big game this week?
Fessler: Everybody has been looking forward to this week and have been working hard at practice. So I think that our whole team will come out ready to play big this week.
Of course the student body not only looks forward to all the sporting events that are taking place this week, but also the highly anticipated Prep rally that will be taking place on Friday during school. Rally crew captain John Colvin spoke about the highly anticipated rally.
Q: How is the McDowell game rally going to compare to the rally prior to the Strong Vincent game?
Colvin: The hype is real. It will be 10 times better.
Q: What should the school expect out of this rally?
Colvin: The best rally you will see here at Prep.
Q: Anything you would like to say to the student body?
Colvin: As you all know this could be the last Prep-McDowell game ever, so we need everybody to be at the game Friday going wild and crazy cheering the football team to a victory over McDowell for the final time.
It does not matter if you’re a current student, an alum, or a boy planning on coming to Prep eventually. Come on out and support the Ramblers reign of excellence as they look to win versus the Trojans all week in both soccer and football.
Welcome to McDowell Week
