This mock draft lottery was made assuming there would be no change in the order of picks during the actual draft lottery process. The actual NBA Draft Lottery will take place on Tuesday, May 20.
1. Milwaukee Bucks (25%): Joel Embiid, C Kansas
The Bucks are in the driver’s seat to receive the coveted number one pick. They are most likely thinking center with this pick and Embiid would be a great fit to put next to Larry Sanders. Embiid is a pretty polished post scorer and an incredibly intimidating rim protector.
2. Philadelphia 76ers (19.9%): Andrew Wiggins, SG Kansas
The 76ers have gone all in on Wiggins and they haven’t been shy about saying that they have fallen in love with the prospect. Wiggins was crowned the best prospect since LeBron James when he was still in high school. Wiggins can do it all. He’s an explosive finisher with a deadly jump shot. The Sixers will take Wiggins without even thinking twice.
3. Orlando Magic (15.6%): Dante Exum, PG Australia
Dante Exum is the next great, young point guard in the NBA. The only knock on him is his outside shot. Other than that, he is a freak for his position. Exum is large for the position standing at 6’6. He is ridiculously explosive and could be a Russell Westbrook type point guard. He is going to be the surprise of the draft.
4. Utah Jazz (10.4%): Jabari Parker, SF Duke
Jabari Parker is the most NBA ready prospect in this year’s draft. He can play the small forward or play the stretch power forward. He is solid on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. He can do it all and I think his game will translate well to the NBA.
5. Boston Celtics (10.3%): Aaron Gordon, PF Arizona
Aaron Gordon is raw. He is similar to a young Blake Griffin. He explodes to the rim for ridiculous dunks. He has shown flashes of both a mid range jump shot and even a three ball at times. He isn’t the best defensive big man, but he will be an exciting player to watch this coming NBA season.
6. Los Angeles Lakers (6.3%): Marcus Smart, PG Oklahoma State
Smart is an electrifying scorer who can really light it up. The only real issue with Smart was the confrontation with the fan in the middle of a game which warranted a suspension. If there is a team that is willing to get talent at any cost, it would be the Lakers. They really need some help and a point guard with Steve Nash not really producing, Smart would be the smartest pick here.
7. Sacramento Kings (4.3%): Noah Vonleh, PF/C Indiana
I don’t really know much about Vonleh, but he has seemed to be on the rise all year long. He is a solid scorer and he will be worth the pick at number seven.
8. Detroit Pistons (2.8%): Julius Randle, PF Kentucky
Randle is the best offensive rebounder in the draft. He eats the offensive boards like no one I’ve seen in awhile. He can finish through contact, hit a little jumper, and has shown flashes of greatness in the NCAA Tourney. Putting him beside Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe would be a great move for the Pistons organization.
9. Cleveland Cavaliers (1.7%): Doug McDermott, SF CreightonÂ
Doug “McBuckets” really showed he can fill up the basket during his time at Creighton. He really impressed showing that he could hit any shot on the floor. He has a deadly jump shot and can take players off the dribble too. I don’t think he will meet the expectations that some have given to him, but he will have no problem having a long NBA career as a role player.
10. New Orleans Pelicans (1.1%): Dario Saric, SF Croatia
Dario Saric is a big forward being 6’10. You don’t often find a guy that big with a shooting stroke as pure as Saric. The Pelicans are a guard oriented team who could really benefit from adding a scoring stretch forward and Saric fits that mood perfectly.
11. Denver Nuggets (0.8%): Tyler Ennis, PG Syracuse
He isn’t draft ready at this point and I think he is making a mistake by coming out after his freshmen year. Once he is given time to develop he will be a solid role playing point guard. He is a scoring guard who demands the ball in his hands. If I had to compare him to someone it would be Devin Harris of the Dallas Mavericks.
12. Orlando Magic (0.7%): Rodney Hood, SF Duke
Rodney Hood is an all around solid small froward who can really make a name for himself in the NBA. He could be a solid starter for the Magic, but I don’t ever see him being a standout star in this league. With Tobias Harris being the Magic starting small forward, adding Hood would be a smart move.
13. Minnesota Timberwolves (0.6%): Gary Harris, SG Michigan State
Is it time to give up on Ricky Rubio? He is turning out to not be the savior of the Timberwolves like he was said to be. He is an injury prone player who hasn’t really produced when healthy. Adding Harris could do one of two things: motivate Rubio to take his game to the next level, or give the Timberwolves a solid starting point guard.
14. Phoenix Suns (0.5%): Adreian Payne, PF Michigan State
Payne really came on strong towards the end of the NCAA season. He showed that he can score and defend and a high level. He showed that he can perform on the big stage and he can really explode towards the rim. The Suns don’t really have a big man, so drafting Payne with the fourteenth pick would just make sense.
