Matthew Oblich is a member of the junior class at Prep. He is a two-way varsity starter for Prep football, playing strong safety and wide receiver. He also plays outfield/second base for Prep’s baseball team. On the academic side, Matthew is a member of National Honors Society, campus ministry, and is a dual enrollment student at Gannon University. He also is currently a part of student government as a class officer for the junior class. Last year, Matthew was also elected as the sophomore class president for the 2023-2024 school year.
With school, sports, and various memberships, it’s expected that Matthew is usually always busy. He understands the importance of managing and balancing his time.
“There isn’t a specific formula to follow that helps with balance and time management,” Matthew said. “You just have to do your best, take it day by day, and find what works best for you.”
This strategy seems to work well for Matthew, as he continues to strive towards his goals and accomplishments.
“I am proud of my accomplishments academically and athletically, but most of all growing in my faith life and relationship with God,” he said.
Matthew’s leadership and faith life benefit and influence his classmates and teammates here at Prep.
Coach Mike Krahe, the head varsity football coach at Cathedral Prep has seen firsthand what makes Matthew a good teammate and player.
“Matthew is always putting the team first and working hard,” Coach Krahe said. “He sets a good example for his teammates.”
Coach Krahe is high on Matthew’s future as well.
“Matthew’s hard work on and off the field will open up many doors for his future,” Coach Krahe said.
