On Halloween, Prep hosted the annual Halloween costume contest. Registration took place during 6th period and voting started at 2:30 p.m. In this contest, there were 4 voting categories: best individual costume, best duo costumes, best group costumes, and best overall costume. There were 19 individual entries, 6 duo entries, and 3 group entries.
Junior Sean Schweitzer won best individual and best overall costume for his Beetlejuice costume. The husband and wife duo of Dr. Jonathan McLaughlin and Dr. Tiggy McLaughlin won best duo for their Batman and Catwoman combination. Max Spence, Nate Klan, and Griffin Potts won best group for their emperors costumes.
Best costume winner Sean Schweitzer said that the inspiration for his costume was from the recently released Beetlejuice movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which was released on Sept. 6. He added that he has also always liked the original Beetlejuice movie as well.
“Beetlejuice is a cool character,” Sean said. “I love his spooky powers and his attitude about life.”
Sean thought Ashton’s individual costume was the best and supported fellow juniors Jasiyah Slupski and Alonna Hudson for the best duo costume, and the students who dressed as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the best group costume.
The best compliment Sean received regarding his costume was from Mr. Herbstritt who commented on his extreme use of face paint to achieve the Beetlejuice look.
