As the holiday season comes to a close, it’s easy to miss the festivities it brought. A school-wide tradition of decorating classroom doors is an especially fun holiday festivity at Cathedral Prep. Led by student council, activity groups compete against each other in who can decorate their classroom door the best. The categories for this contest included fun themes such as Most Festive, Most Funny, Most Creative, and Best Overall. This contest has been a part of Prep’s Christmas tradition for four years now.
“The idea for this contest was inspired by a sense of wanting to have fun around the holidays and decorate the school,” Ms. Mackensen, Student Council Co-Advisor, said. “Getting everyone in our community working together toward that goal was a rewarding factor in this tradition.”
While students and teachers alike generally embraced this contest idea four years ago, the competitive attitude students bring forth every year since then shows just how important this tradition is to Prep.
“Students and teachers are getting used to the idea of this annual contest, and now we are seeing a lot more competition between students decorating the doors,” Ms. Mackensen said. “Bragging rights are at stake as this contest has really established itself as a tradition at Prep that people look forward to.”
This past holiday season has proven just how creative and competitive students can get. The results of the 2024 Christmas Door Decorating Contest are characterized by the festivity, creativity, and hard work of Prep’s Students. Congratulations to Mrs. Grove’s room, Mrs. Tompkins’ room, Mrs. Howell’s room, and Mrs. Drabant’s room. As bragging rights have successfully been acquired and Christmas is behind us, it’ll be exciting to see what student council, teachers, and the student body will bring to the table next Christmas time.
