With Halloween on the horizon, the staff wrote about their favorite Halloween costumes.

Out of all the costumes I have worn, my favorite was the flamingo. It was soft, eye-catching, vibrant, and covered in feathers. I wore this costume to school, and everyone admired and complimented it. I felt confident and happy wearing it. Also, wearing it turned normal moments into cherished ones, and it helped me form bonds with my classmates. Overall, the flamingo was the best costume I have ever worn.

My favorite Halloween costume as a child was a pirate costume because it really allowed me to pretend. I had a fake bird, an eye patch, and a sword for accessories. I felt as though I was actually a pirate when I was trick-or-treating, especially when I was wielding the sword. I unfortunately was not able to wear the bird accessory, though, because my mom was not able to pin it in place on my shoulder, but that did not take away from the fun experience I had that Halloween night.

My favorite Halloween costume I would say would be my Bob Marley outfit from a couple years ago. For this outfit I just had the Jamaican yellow, green, and red hat with fake dreadlocks. Though I may not appear Jamaican, I think my outfit was still put together well, and people could tell what look I was going for. I also really like reggae music, so I think I really fit the part.

When I was younger, my brother and I had matching gorilla costumes. They are my favorite because growing up we always watched Tarzan, and we frequently visited the Erie Zoo as well as the Pittsburgh Zoo. They were also our first actual costumes as kids, so they hold a high level of sentimental value to me. We would always wear them when playing either outdoors or indoors. Sometimes we’d even beg our parents to let us wear them to the grocery store.

My favorite Halloween costume was back in middle school when I went as a knight. Back then I was into medieval stuff, so I really wanted to go as a knight. And I already had basically everything I needed for the costume, so it was easy to do and cheap. I carried around a sword, too. This costume also got me the most candy compared to previous years, so that gives even more reason to be my favorite.

My favorite Halloween costume is anything Star Wars. I was Princess Leia one year. I think both my brothers and all my male cousins have been either Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, or Darth Vader on at least one Halloween. However, what makes the costumes the best are the lightsaber battles that inevitably break out, which often result in kids slipping on black ice in the middle of the street. Seeing my younger brother wipe out and slide 10 feet down the street will never not be funny to me.
