Cathedral Prep’s annual Powderpuff game on April 24 brought its usual mix of friendly rivalry and school spirit as the junior and senior girls faced off on the field. The event, a long‑running tradition, showcased athleticism, enthusiasm, and humor that made the game a highlight of the school year.
This year’s matchup drew energy from the opening whistle, with both teams showing determination and a surprising level of strategy. The juniors came in eager to prove themselves, while the seniors were focused on ending their high school run with a win. Coaches, teachers, and staff lined the sidelines, cheering loudly and offering encouragement throughout the game.
Despite all the cheering and encouragement, players expressed a mix of excitement and disappointment about the turnout.
Senior Haisy Pierce shared, “I had a lot of fun, but I wish my friends had come to cheer me on.”
Her comment echoed a sentiment felt by several players who hoped for a stronger student presence in the stands.
Senior Maddox “Boogie” Ragen also reflected on the attendance, saying, “I was glad that the teachers came, but it was lame that no students came.”
Despite this, players kept the energy and enthusiasm high.
Faculty members were quick to highlight the positive atmosphere and sportsmanship on display. Mr. Parsons, who helped officiate the event, remarked, “It was a great game, and it was nice to see everyone having fun.”
In the end, the Powderpuff game remained true to its purpose: bringing students and staff together for a lighthearted but spirited competition. Whether on the field or cheering from the sidelines, those who participated helped keep a beloved Prep tradition alive and left plenty of anticipation for next year’s game.
