Cathedral Prep just celebrated its third quarter session, a ceremony that honored students for their academic achievements and recognized their hard work. The event highlighted the school’s focus on academic excellence, character, and personal growth.
Like always, the ceremony started by recognizing students who attained either an all A average (first honors) or A-B average (second honors) in all their classes. Some students were also celebrated for their high Quality Point Averages. All of the students who had any of these achievements received a special honor that reflected their hard work and commitment. The recognition of the students is a reminder that their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed by the school.
The class with the most honors given out was the senior class with 60 percent of the class receiving honors. Principal Herbstritt, although surprised, gave his congratulations to the seniors.
Prep also recognized the third quarter Men and Women of Prep, choosing a man and woman from each graduating class that has exemplified what it means to be a Prep student all quarter long. One of these students, junior Maria Bruschi, was honored to be chosen.
“I’m just happy I’m able to represent all of the other students,” Maria said.
Junior Henry Fritts was also very happy about the recognition.
“It feels amazing to be recognized by my teachers and class officers,” Henry said.
After the awards were given out, alumni Karen Fails Surkala, Class of ‘86, gave a speech on her time at Villa Maria Academy. Her speech reminded students that hard work and strong faith are the key aspects in making anyone capable of achieving high success. She also gave three pieces of advice: following your own path, surrounding yourself with good people, and always making good choices.
At the end of the event, Cathedral Prep’s President Kevin Smith congratulated the students for their success and encouraged them to continue the lessons from Karen’s speech as they move into the next quarter. The third quarter session gave both a celebration of past achievements and motivation for the upcoming challenges.
