Halloween is a time of excitement for the younger kids of Mother Teresa Academy. This year after 3rd period at Prep, the kids came over from MTA dressed in their Halloween costumes with their bags ready to collect some candy. The kids marched around the halls of Prep, in an orderly fashion of course, lined up with their homeroom teachers. The teachers and students of Prep lined the hallways and had candy ready to pass out to the kids.
“I think it is awesome that we are having MTA students trick-or-treat at Prep and Villa today,” said Mrs. Quinn, a math teacher at Prep. “I think that it may be the only opportunity some of these students will have to go trick-or-treating, and it is nice to be able to provide a nice safe environment for them to do so.”
With the rain moving in today, it is going to make for tough trick-or-treat conditions tonight. Rain and wind is not going to make the experience as fun for the younger kids eager to go out and get some candy on Halloween. Allowing the kids from MTA to trick or treat inside at Prep is the next best thing.
“To most young children high school students, especially Cathedral Prep Ramblers, are viewed as ‘superheroes,’” said Prep history teacher Mr. Parsons. “This gives them a chance to meet some of the young men they look up. It is also important to remember we are one family with Villa and MTA, and this is a great opportunity to meet and doing something nice for our little brothers and sisters.”
Not only is trick-or-treating a great experience for the kids dressed up for Halloween, but for the Prep students as well passing out the candy. Mrs. Quinn said it best when asked how this experience benefits Prep students as well.
“It is very rewarding to see how happy young children can be with something as simple as a piece of candy. Seeing these students smile and laugh is priceless. It may even make Prep boys smile and laugh.”
Senior Nash Jones summed up his view on the events of today in just a few words.
“It’s so much fun seeing all the kids!”
Trick-or-treating at Prep was a success, for both the kids from MTA, and the students at Prep. The Prep boys were smiling and laughing at the creativity of the younger kids costumes, and even got to share in some of the leftover candy as well. The “Trail of Treats” was a success, and should continue for many years to come, and Mr. Parsons agrees.
“We should continue to do the trick or treating because it is a great event that is so much fun for the kids and helps us deepen those family bonds.”
