Alumni Profile: Mike Easly (’88)

MikeEaslyMr. Mike Easly was born in Erie, Pa., on Sept. 25, 1969. He attended St. Luke’s grade school and then went on to graduate from Cathedral Prep in 1988.
Cathedral Prep has been and currently is a legacy in his family. His four older brothers went to Prep before him, and he currently has two nephews attending. His time at Cathedral Prep was one of the best times of his life, and he wouldn’t change a thing about them.
Mr. Easly truly enjoyed his time as a student at Cathedral Prep. Prep properly prepared him for adult life socially and academically. He attended the University of Pittsburgh after Prep, and with the education he had received, he was able to easily handle the workload. “The math department at Prep when I went there was excellent in preparing me for the college workload,” he said. “I was way more prepared than some other classmates who struggled to keep up.”
During his time at Prep he enjoyed participating in swimming and boxing. His favorite moment at Prep was freshman year against Darrel “The Hit Man” Hersch. Although he lost in a split decision, if you ask him he got in the best shots.
During college, Mr. Easly had originally planned on becoming an interpreter or being involved in international business. He dual majored at the University of Pittsburgh in Italian and business. While at Pitt, he was able to receive an academic scholarship to study Italian in Italy, which really helped his understanding of the language. His Italian teacher at Prep was Mr. Del Rio who he also said was his toughest teacher, helping prepare him for the depth of college courses.
After graduation he moved to Washington, D.C., and took a job in international business. After a few years, he realized how much he missed Erie and how tough it would be to have a family with all the travel involved in his work. He moved to Jamestown, New York, then Findley Lake, and eventually back to Erie. He currently works at Industrial Supplies as a salesman, and lives with his three daughters.
Outside of his work, he enjoys to stay active. He enjoys skiing, golfing, and running. One of his favorite hobbies is playing in a weekly bocce league. Not only does he enjoy playing bocce, he gets to see his fellow classmates their as well. He graduated with people on his team and also plays some teams that include the likes of current Prep teachers Coach Grychowski and Mr. Achille.
Mr. Easly continues to use the lessons he learned at Prep in life today. He is a caring father and great friend to many. He takes being a man of Prep to a new level.
