Nicki Minaj and Cardi B’s feud is older than the spat that occurred on Sept. 7. The first public tension between the two female musical artists was in March of 2017 when Nicki supposedly liked a comment on Instagram saying that Cardi’s verses were trash. Minaj later stated that it was photoshopped.
Later in May, Nicki was featured in a song and said, “Silly rap beefs just get me more checks / My life is a movie, I’m never off set / Me and my amigos (no, not Offset).”
Cardi, who is now married to the rapper Offset, was not happy that Nicki mentioned her husband in a song. This back and forth petty squabble continued for more than a year.
On Sept. 7, Cardi was at the New York Fashion Week, where Minaj later showed up. Later that night at the fashion show, both of the rappers were on a second floor balcony when Cardi approached Nicki. She was screaming about Nicki talking bad about her 8-week-old daughter, Kulture. Minaj had almost 10 bodyguards at the function, so Cardi did not get far before being held back. Cardi then took off her stiletto heel and threw it at Nicki. The heel missed her intended target and hit one of the bodyguards instead. After this altercation, Cardi was escorted out by security with no shoes, a ripped dress, and a lump on her forehead. Meanwhile, Minaj left later on in the night and blew a kiss to the crowd of fans outside.
After the fashion show, Cardi went to Instagram, writing a post about how Nicki can say anything about her but not to mention her daughter ever. Nicki later on stated that she was a part of something so humiliating in front of a high class group of people.
In the near future, it will be interesting to see if the two find a way to resolve their differences or if their heated feud will continue.
