Jarrett Ziacik is a senior at Cathedral Prep as well as a staff writer for The Rambler. Similar to any high school student, Jarrett’s interests span beyond the standard subjects of the classroom. One activity Jarrett is captivated by is creating art.
Cathedral Prep offers various art courses to students, and Jarrett has taken advantage of this opportunity. In his sophomore year, he completed the Ceramics I course offered. In junior year, he took Painting I and II. Currently, he is taking Advanced Placement 2-D Art, and is scheduled to take Ceramics II next semester. It is easy to see Jarrett has accustomed himself to several art forms.
Jarrett’s favorite art would be two-dimensional art, specifically painting. His first painting completed was able to be presented in Prep’s own art show. He is very proud of this painting. It is a landscape painting done in water color, depicting a beautiful sun setting behind multiple mountains. Jarrett painted many other works in a similar fashion when he took the painting classes.
Currently taking AP 2D art, Jarrett enjoys creating portraits of celebrities and other famous individuals. A focus of these portraits are some of Jarrett’s favorite musicians, including Jimi Hendrix, XXXTentacion, Trippie Red, and John Mayer.
The reason Jarrett enjoys creating art and enrolling in the art class Prep has to offer is largely because of the freedom. “Creating art through painting, drawing, and sculpting is appealing to me because I am able to create something to my desire,” he said. “Unlike other classes, I am not limited by a restrictive outline. I am able to craft and develop final products which are meaningful to me. The process of creating art is more personal because it expresses various parts of who I am, and therefore [it is] more enjoyable. At the end of the class, I am able to walk away with a creation I am more proud of which does a better job of representing who I am and what I am interested in, rather than an ordinary research paper or worksheet.”
