Out of all the students who have had Mr. McCall as a teacher, most of them will tell you he is one of their favorite teachers—not just Prep but at Villa as well. Mr. McCall knows how to connect with students through teaching so every student understands how to do the work correctly. Mr. McCall teaches Honors Biology and Chemistry during the mornings at Prep. In the afternoon he teaches Honors Anatomy & Physiology and Integrated Science at Villa.
Mr. McCall was born in West Freedom, Pa., which is about 30 minutes south of Clarion. He attended Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School and graduated in 2009. After graduating high school, he attended Waynesburg University. While at Waynesburg, Mr. McCall was involved in some other things outside of the classroom. He played on the golf team at Waynesburg during his freshman year. In his later years of college, he played intramural ultimate frisbee and basketball. After graduating from Waynesburg in 2013 with a bachelor of science degree in Biology he then attended West Virginia. In 2017 Mr. McCall graduated from West Virginia with a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
Before coming to Prep Mr. McCall taught in West Virginia for six years. Other than teaching in West Virginia, he was also a golf coach for two years, and in 2018 led the team to a runner-up finish in the state championship tournament. Mr. McCall also worked as a landscaper in Oil City.
“I think Mr. McCall’s outgoing attitude leads to great connections with his students,” said senior Landon Kalie.
Mr. McCall enjoys CrossFit during his off time away from school, as he is a certified level 1 CrossFit instructor. Mr. McCall has competed in four different CrossFit competitions and has taken second place in three of them.
“He was very relatable to the students and knew which way of learning was best for students,” senior Mac Deitrick said. “He was able to really connect with his students and he was an excellent person and teacher.”
Mr. McCall is happily married to his wife Morgan, and they have 2 dogs: a black lab named Luna and a chocolate lab named Leia. Mr. McCall is always talking about how much he enjoys his home life and spending time with his wife when at home.
“He is super respectful and cool with you and will treat you as an equal in a way like in adulthood,” said senior Deklan Thurston. “That’s nice because most teachers don’t do that, and you can have a convo with him about anything.”
Mr. McCall is one of my favorite teachers I’ve had in any school personally. He knows how to work hard and have fun in the classroom at the same time. He is a really funny guy to have as your teacher and makes the classes he teaches a good time.
