Daniel Tometsko, also known as Jaboi Daniel T, is a walking legend at Prep. After talking to Jaboi, one thing was clear, and that was he loved his school and he loves helping out.
“There’s something great about the brotherhood here,” Jaboi said, “Even if you don’t know someone too well, you’d still try to help them out, and that’s such a great thing about Prep.”
Any student or faculty member could give you a five page list of all their favorite Jaboi moments, but when I asked him about his, he gave a pretty amazing response.
“It had to be in freshman year when I carried a frying pan around in my backpack for the whole year, back when we were allowed to have backpacks.”
Carrying a frying pan around for a whole year was only the start of the legend known as Jaboi Daniel T. He is also is a very active and highly a ranked JROTC member who regularly leads drill practice before school. Jaboi is also a dedicated member of the theater program, finding featured roles in quite a few shows in the most unique and memorable way possible.
Senior Nick Cacchione talked about Jaboi and his involvement with the theater program.
“Jabs was so funny to act with,” Nick said. “There was one scene where he was supposed to be like a barber and didn’t have his shoes or apron or mustache on, and it was just one of the funniest things. He still killed it though.”
Jaboi’s iconic moments don’t just involve the theater program. He’s also going to districts for percussion. He takes great pride in is his involvement in marching band, percussion ensemble, and the church band at the teen mass at Blessed Sacrament.
Lastly, many readers may wonder where the nickname “Jaboi” came from. Jaboi himself didn’t comment, saying only “that’s a mystery,” but senior Nick Cacchione gave quite the story about the birth of the nickname.
“In one of the first classes on the first day of freshman year, we were playing Kahoot, and Jaboi put his name as ‘Jaboi Daniel T’,” Nick said. “Anyway, Jaboi ended up taking first place and since none of us really knew each other everyone was like, ‘Who’s Jaboi?’ And that’s really where the name started.”
Jaboi is one of the most beloved students at Cathedral Prep, and you would be hard pressed to find one person who would say they dislike him. Daniel is highly regarded in all activities he does and loved by teachers as well. Jaboi is a real man of Prep through and through.
