The 2020 Masters field was set with a lot of talent, including, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, and many others. Taking place in November, this was only the second time the Masters tournament was not played in April.
Of course, the player who was the most hyped up for the tournament is one of the greatest golfers of all time, Tiger Woods. Tiger won the last Masters tournament back in 2019.
As the first day of the tournament started with a two-hour weather delay in Augusta, Georgia. Players who did not finish their first rounds due to darkness had to come back early in the morning Friday and the same thing for Saturday morning.
After the first three days of the tournament, the leader was Dustin Johnson. With Johnson shooting a 7-under (65) in the 3rd round, it really helped him separate himself from the rest of the field. Johnson headed into the final day of the tournament with a 5-shot lead, playing with Sungjae Im from Korea and Mexico’s Abraham Ancer. These two were coming into the final day with a lot of confidence, but Dustin Johnson was just playing too well for them to get any strokes back.
Johnson won the 2020 Masters with a 20-under score for the 4 days.
Watching the professional golfers play Augusta in the fall was a different scene, but it still had plenty of action as always.
Zach Henry, who is a member of the Prep golf team himself explained how the Masters being played in the fall this year was. “It was a change of scenery during the time of year,” Zach said, “but the weather was great and the golf being played was exceptional.”
The next Masters is scheduled for the regular time frame in 2021 being played on April 8-11. The next Masters tournament should be interesting as always. The field is always the best of the best every year. Who will be putting on the green jacket next in the spring?
