The first show of the theater season is here. The Cathedral Prep theater cast and crew debuted Into The Woods yesterday with performances tonight and Saturday at 7 p.m. as well as Sunday at 2 p.m.

Into the Woods was written by Stephen Sondheim. It takes inspiration from many fairy tales written by the Brothers Grimm, including Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Cinderella.

Several members of the cast and crew are particularly excited about the upcoming performance.

“I get to have fun with my friends, and my family and friends get to see the project that we all have been working on,” ninth grader Charlotte Przybylinski said. Charlotte plays the role of Little Red Ridinghood. “I’m having fun and investing my time into something, where at the end of the day I can be proud of what I am doing.”

Of course, a theater production is never complete without a stage crew. One of our resident costumers is Mrs. Proper.

“It can be time consuming, whether it’s a cast of 20 or a cast of 80, but it’s also very rewarding,” Mrs. Proper said. “It’s my pleasure to be in a role that helps bring these characters to life.”

Evidently, those behind the scenes are working just as hard as the actors on stage. Mrs. Proper also shared what excites her most about the upcoming show.

“It tells a story of life lessons in song through fairy tales,” she said. “This production is exciting because it showcases so much incredible talent from these Cathedral Prep students.”

The 2022-2023 theater season is already off to a great start, with many new faces joining the cast, as well as some familiar ones. One such person is senior Emily Morphy, who plays the Baker’s Wife.

“All of the friends I have made have become a family to me,” Emily said. “We eat, sleep, and perform together. Honestly, I couldn’t ask for better people to do this show with. We have worked really hard on this show, so I hope everyone comes out to support the Prep theater program.”
