Michigan State wins game, Baylor defensive end Shawn Oakman wins on Twitter

Social media’s latest star is Baylor’s University’s 6’9″ 250-pound defensive end, Shawn Oakman. Baylor played Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Day, a game which Michigan State mounted a crazy comeback to stun the Bears. The Spartans trailed 41-21 entering the fourth quarter but scored 21 unanswered points in the final 12:09 to win 42-41.
Michigan State has two Cathedral Prep alumni on their squad (quarterback Damion Terry and  running back Delton Williams). Unfortunately, most of the coverage and anything taken away from that great bowl game was Shawn Oakman.
Oakman, a junior defensive end for the Bears, instantly became an internet and Twitter sensation after the opening coin toss. He walked out to the middle of the field with his fellow captains to shake the hands of the Spartans captains before the game. This is a common occurrence, but the one difference is, Shawn Oakman is the biggest and baddest human being ever. Chuck Norris would not pick a fight with this man. Shawn Oakman quickly started trending on Twitter and most specifically with tweets about people backing down after seeing Shawn Oakman in his tight jersey with his massive arms and abs bulging out. Dressed in his green jersey and green pants he could easily be mistaken for the Hulk.
It is humorous that instead of people being in awe of Michigan State’s ability to come back and win in thrilling fashion, they chose to focus on the monster of a man that wears number two for Baylor. Anyone who watched the game would have seen barely any defense played except when MSU rallied to come up with some crucial stops toward the end of the game to get the ball back to the offense. Sparty’s quarterback Connor Cook threw a season high two interceptions and struggled all night.
Luckily, Baylor’s defense is something barely better than horrendous, so he still threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winning touchdown. The Spartans overcame a 20-point fourth quarter deficit to beat Baylor. But still, Shawn Oakman is all anyone took away from the Cotton Bowl.
