Feud of the Fountains: Assessing the quality of Prep’s water fountains

April 11, 2016

Drinking fountains: they make the world go round. Well, not entirely. Within the halls of Cathedral Prep, however, they might as well, given the unappreciated importance they hold in the average student’s school day experience. Prep is notorious for its hot hallways during the summer months. Intense gym classes, class-to-class commutes, and the regular hustle and bustle of a seven hour school day all likewise ensure one common characteristic amongst the Cathedral Prep student body: unquenchable thirst.

According to Prep’s parent and student handbook, the only liquids allowed outside of the cafeteria are clear. This regulation confines one’s beverage options to a bland decision between flavored water (if you’re feeling ambitious of course) or some plain old H2O. In addition, carrying a water bottle around all day is often times inconvenient, messy, and distracting. Unless your plain is to rough it out until the end of the day, you’re left with one final alternative: indulge in any one of Prep’s 13 drinking fountains.

So, which one are you going to choose? It’s fair to say that the majority of drinks taken by students are either rushed, mindlessly taken, or in any other way not appreciated to their fullest potential. It would therefore be decently easy to go without noticing all the characteristics that allow every drinking fountain to provide the uniquely satisfying drinking experience that they do. In order to do just that—gain an appreciation for each drinking fountain’s one of a kind attributes—a judgment system has been devised, ranking all of Cathedral Prep’s drinking fountains based off of the system’s five criteria of Brand, Location Quality, Stream Characteristics, Aestheticism, and Most Noticeable Trait (Good or Bad).

So, who won the crown? Judging from the table of results below, the winner may very likely come as a surprise to many. Some drinking fountains splashed too much. Others left your mouth feeling a bit too cold. Others, still, you might not have even known about prior to this evaluation. Regardless of vice or virtue, every last one of Cathedral Prep’s drinking fountains proved themselves as irreplaceable assets to the students, faculty, staff, administration, and/or whoever else just so chooses to grace the halls of Cathedral Prep. Drink water, Ramblers; keep drinking.
