On May 8, Prep and Villa hosted the final signing day of the year for their student athletes. In total, 11 student athletes were honored that day, with seven of them coming from Prep and four coming from Villa.
“It’s great that the school recognizes us like this when we make such a big decision,” Gannon baseball signee Jimmy Colvin said.
Besides Jimmy, the majority of student athletes at this signing day will also be donning the maroon and gold next year. Infielder Alex Baldi will be playing with Colvin next year at Gannon, while their classmate Skyler Neely will be playing football for the Golden Knights. Also going to Gannon will be cross country recruit and student-athlete Alex Chelton, who is the final member of the Ramblers joining Gannon next year.
For Villa, two out of the four recruits sitting at the table will also be going to Gannon. Soccer player Abby Grychowski and water polo player Anna Jefferys will be the Golden Knights in this group of Villa players.
Besides Gannon, several other institutions were committed to by the other student athletes. Notre Dame College, Washington and Jefferson, Penn State Behrend, Allegheny College, and Carlow University were all represented at the Hagerty Family Event Center last Wednesday.
In conclusion, it’s bittersweet seeing our athletes move on to the next level. Everyone at this ceremony contributed immensely to their respective team’s success, and their absence definitely will have an impact on their team. However, you can’t help but feel proud for these people as they transition onto the next chapter of not only their athletic careers, but also their scholastic careers.
