Tiger Woods has been in the golf world for a very long time, and he has a lot to show for it as well. Recent events involving Tiger getting into a solo car accident had the whole sports world on edge wanting to know if he’ll be okay and what caused the accident. Woods survived the crash, but he was in critical condition and required surgery on his right leg involving a metal rod being put into his leg to stabilize it. The golf world and beyond has been sending prayers to show their support of and respect for Tiger.

Woods was the only person in his 2021 Genesis GV80 SUV when he was driving northbound down Hawthorne Avenue, located in Rancho Palos Verdes. This portion of the road was very windy and only a two-lane road. It is also considered a very high percentage crash zone for solo accidents. At around 7:12 a.m., Woods veered off the road onto a hillside. Luckily, a nearby neighbor saw the accident happen and called 911 right away before they even knew it was Tiger Woods behind the wheel. When authorities arrived, Woods was awake and responsive to them. Had he not been wearing his seatbelt, however, it’s imagined that he may not have been as lucky as he was to survive.

The evening of the crash Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, released a statement about the accident as an update to the world on how Woods was doing. He said, “Tiger Woods was in a single-car accident this morning in California where he suffered multiple leg injuries. He is currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support.”

Following his surgeries, Woods’ personal Twitter account posted an update that said “long surgical procedure” and then also said that Tiger suffered “significant orthopedic injuries to his lower right extremity (right leg).” It’s been said that he obtained “open fractures” to his upper and lower portions of his fibula and tibia.

Woods is now recovering at home. Many around the sporting world are showing there support for Tiger, and wishing him a speedy recovery. Bryson DeChambeau is a well-known practice partner of Tiger’s, and he took to social media to say, “My thoughts and prayers are with him for a full recovery.”

Other players showed their appreciation for Woods by wearing “Tiger red” golf shirts to the second day of play where Tiger was scheduled to be prior to the accident. Beyond the golfers, other sporting legends such as Michael Phelps said, “Prayers for tiger woods,” and NBA all-star Stephen Curry added, “Stay strong.”

Adam Scott, who was also at the tournament Woods was going to, said, “You think guys like Tiger and Kobe Bryant are untouchable, but they’re not. I just hope he’s alright.”

Not only is the golf world extremely saddened by this news but the whole world of sports is on edge hoping that Tiger Woods can one day swing his driver again. However, life doesn’t always go as planned, and the injuries Woods sustained could very well end his golfing career for good. Former President Barack Obama put it the best way possible when speaking about Woods’ recovery. He tweeted this out on Tuesday evening: “Sending my prayers to @tigerwoods and his family tonight—here’s to a speedy recovery for the GOAT of golf. If we’ve learned anything over the years, it’s to never count Tiger out.”
