On Saturday May 11, Prep and Villa had their annual art show. The art show is put on by the Vil la National Art Honor Society along with the help of Ms. Cecchetti, Villa’s art teacher, and Mr. Vicary. It has pieces from Prep and Villa students along with art from Catholic elementary schools like St. George. Annalise Santone, a sophomore from Villa, won the Best in Show award for a breathtaking colored pencil drawing of an eye.

Many Prep students submitted various drawings, painting and ceramic projects. Ryan Morphy, Andrew Stark, John Nies, and Matthew Zimmerman are four students who won awards. Ryan Morphy won the first place prize for his ceramics coil pot along with a third place and an honorable mention for two of his mixed media pieces. Andrew Stark won the second place award for a ceramic hand that he made. John Nies won first place drawing and the first place painting for his watercolor landscape. Finally, Matthew Zimmerman was award an honorable mention for his aboriginal art piece of a peacock.

John Nies was asked about what it’s like to win awards in two separate categories and he replied, “I really didn’t know I was going to even be considered to win the best painting, so that’s pretty cool that I did. I expected to win one of the awards for best drawings because that’s the area I do well in. So, yeah, that’s all pretty cool.”
