Students earn district, regional chorus honors

Several Prep students participated in this year’s virtual PMEA District 2 Chorus auditions. The students worked with Mr. Steadman and Mr. Alesso to prepare excerpts provided to them that they had to record and submit to be judged. Advancing from Prep were junior Collin Hudson as well as seniors Brian Lee and Anthony Nunez.

Usually, there would be one big concert for the district chorus, but due to COVID, they have to sit and wait and hope to be placed at states.

Brian also recently earned 2nd Chair in the Tenor 1 section this year at the PMEA Region 2 Chorus auditions, which means he will advance to the PMEA All-State Chorus where he will get to participate in virtual clinics and rehearsals with renowned choral conductors with the top high school singers from all across Pennsylvania.

“Singing is a really big part of who I am as a person,” Brian said. “I’m involved with singing here at school during Mass, the local Erie Junior Philharmonic Chorus, and lots of other musical organizations. Chairing first at districts was a really validating experience for me and solidified the once wavering confidence I had in my voice. It made me really happy to know that the hard work I put into learning difficult songs paid off when it came down to the judging. As with any other ‘win’ in a competition, it was a big morale boost and inspiration to keep pursuing my love for music and specifically singing.”

“I’m just happy I was able to do it once,” Anthony said. “While maybe not as big a deal as it would’ve been in previous years, I’m still proud of myself that I made it.”
