This week’s question asked our staff to name and explain their favorite movie villain. See what they said below and then share your favorite in the comments.
My favorite movie villain is definitely Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2. I consider that movie to be the best superhero movie of all time with Tobey Maguire being in the lead role of Spider-Man. Alfred Molina played Dr. Otto Octavius in the movie, and he was brilliant. Not only is he great as Doc Ock the villain himself, but he also puts in a great performance as Otto Octavius the aspiring scientist. I can’t wait to see him return in No Way Home.
My favorite movie villain is Loki from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Loki is my favorite because he is more of an “anti-hero” than an actual villain. His story is so complicated and full of trauma from his adopted father, Odin, that even classifying him as a “villain” feels wrong. Everything he did was out of desperation for approval and power, because he never got either of those when he was a child. He was always second best to his older brother, Thor, and he was completely lied to about his past. The way he went about achieving his desires was not OK at all, but it is pretty obvious in his character that he did not enjoy doing those things either. We can see this in his own Disney+ show, Loki, a lot. He says multiple times that he doesn’t enjoy hurting people and he hated his life more than anything. Overall, I really love how his character has developed during his time in the MCU, and his complexity as a character makes him my favorite by far.
There are a couple villains that come to mind, but only one really stands alone from the rest. When it came down to it I was thinking of villains from Star Wars, DC, and Marvel. But the two that it came down to were the Joker and Darth Vadar. Both of their backstories are pretty cool when you really get into it and see how they became villains. All in all though I’d say that Joker is my favorite villain.
The Rocky Horror Show is one of my favorite movies. It is an exotic and interactive cult classic. Dr. Frank N. Further is the main antagonist in the 1974 musical film. His goal as a mad scientist is to create the perfect man. He does so in the form of Rocky Horror. His intellect and mind control abilities make him appear promiscuously charismatic.
My favorite movie villain is Thanos. I like Thanos probably because I love the Avengers and the Avengers movies. I also like Thanos because he seems kind of dumb, and the Avengers eventually outsmart him. I love watching the Avengers movies. They are very heart-wrenching and bring out a lot of emotion for me, so it’s pretty predictable that Thanos is my favorite.
My favorite movie villain is Dr. Hannibal Lector from the Silence of the Lambs 2. I like him because of his character. He’s mysterious and is very discreet about things but turns out to be helpful even as a “villain.” He doesn’t give exact answers to the questions he is asked but rather he gives hints and clues. This makes me like him because he’s genuinely trying to help out while keeping his villain character. He also only talks when he’s brought Twizzlers, if not then he won’t speak to them. This just adds to his deranged personality making him one of the weirdest but coolest villains.
My favorite villain movie is definitely Kilmonger from the Black Panther. Kilmonger is my favorite villain because he is really cool. I also like this villain because I really like the actor that plays his role. The actor that plays Kilmonger is Micheal B. Jordan and he did a really good job of making a cool villain.
