One thing Cathedral Prep is known for is inarguably the sports. Most of the time it’s competitive sports where other schools are played. However, a concept that is always overlooked is Prep’s intramural sports.
Prep has a wide range and variety of intramural sports they set up. For example, throughout the winter they have the basketball intramurals, such as three-on-three basketball tournaments. What really makes it unique is that they get teachers in on the sports, too. At those types of tournaments you could see the students playing against the teachers, or even teachers playing themselves.
But, it doesn’t stop there. Cathedral Prep currently has a ping pong intramural group, which is led by intramural sports president, Adam Gavio.
“It’s true, now that the gym is unavailable because of the construction, we are switching to ping pong in the cafeteria,” Adam said. “But before that we did sports such as badminton, volleyball, and basketball where anyone can join to compete for fun.”
The newly-founded ping pong club meets at least once a week after school. They come together and just enjoy themselves while playing one of the most popular sports globally.
“It would be cool to see ping pong played competitively between schools here,” member Antonio VanDamia said. “Whenever I go, I feel like it is just a positive place to be where no one ever gets too competitive.”
Playing intramural sports is popular across the country, especially in college. This is just one of the very many things Cathedral Prep excels in. Adam explained why he thinks intramurals are popular with students.
“Intramural sports provide a fun sports experience without all of the time and practice that most sports require,” Adam said.
For the people that are interested in or enjoy watching intramural sports, Cathedral Prep is the perfect place to look. Intramural sports are happening all year round and it seems to just be drawing in a bigger crowd.
