It has finally come, the moment every student has been anticipating since the first day of the school year. The fourth quarter has begun, and believe me it is a very exciting time for everyone here at Prep. The weather is slowly getting better, the classes are becoming slightly easier, and the attitudes are shifting in a more positive direction. Every student is ready for the summer to begin and move on to the next chapter of his life.
Juniors, sophomores, and freshman, this is a time to celebrate for next year when you will all be moving up in the ranks. It is time for all of you to take the reigns and become the leaders of the school. For seniors, it is a time to celebrate a job well done. It is a time to pat yourself on the back for making it through four years at one of the most rigorous high schools this nation has to offer. Whether you have just breezed through school or have worked hard every day, finish strong and we will all be receiving a diploma on Sunday, June 1, and graduate.
Now is a time for the seniors to look back at all of their accomplishments they have made here. Look back at the friendships you have made, the lives you have touched, and the memories you have created. It is all in the past now; it is the legacy you will be leaving behind. The things you have done and lives you have touched will stay behind as you move on. They will linger in these hallways, by word of mouth as stories told by younger generations for several years to come.
Hopefully, for most of you it will be a great legacy you are leaving behind so that people will talk about you in a positive light: how you were a star athlete, a genius, a comedian, a well respected young man, or even just a great all around person. It doesn’t matter if your accomplishments have been written in the stat books or are engraved in the minds of those you have reached out to, hopefully there is something you are will be remembered for. Hopefully there is something that over these past four years you’re very proud about and can lift your head up high knowing that someone is talking about you even though you are long gone. This senior class will most definitely go down as one of the most courageous, comical, and hardworking groups of young men. When names are brought up in conversations to come, hopefully yours is one of those that is mentioned.
For those of you who have just cruised by and haven’t been involved at school, we still have one more quarter before it is all said and done. One more quarter to create a legacy for ourselves, so that our names will never die in the hallways of Cathedral Prep. So seniors, make the most of this time we have left, and enjoy every minute while trying to make as much of an impact as you can. For once you graduate, you will never have a second chance at being a student and going to Prep for another four years. Remember the days here at Cathedral Prep, and may your legacy live on forever.
