What is the best vacation you’ve ever taken?

The Rambler

With Easter break on the horizon, the staff of The Rambler focused this week on vacations, reflecting back upon the best vacation they’ve ever taken.

The best vacation that I have ever taken would have to be to the 2012 Toronto Comic Arts Festival. I would have only been seven or eight years old at the time, so I don’t remember much about it, but I do know that I was able to meet Jeff Smith, the creator of Bone, which was my favorite comic series growing up, as well as Pendleton Ward, the creator of Adventure Time, also one of my favorite cartoons as a child. I believe that we also met Larry Marder, the creator of Beanworld. Each of these series were very influential on the type of books and shows that I like to watch—they all have a sort of unique fantasy setting, and each is notable for the world-building put into them, similar to some of my other favorites like The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. We still have the signatures from them on my Bone and Beanworld books, and even a signed piece of art that is hanging in the stairway. I think the residue of the experience alone warrants it being my favorite vacation.

So far, I’ve only ever been on one vacation in my life. So, this makes it by far the best one I’ve ever been on. It was a trip to Florida back in 2019. While on the trip, my family and I stayed with our aunt and uncle who lived in Tampa. While with them, we went to Disney and this one zoo called Bush Gardens; Disney was certainly the highlight of the trip. Apart from that, my favorite aspect of the trip was seeing the ocean for the first time, and tasting too much of that extremely salty water.

The best vacation I have ever taken is probably tied between the one I took to California and Colorado this past summer and when I went to universal studios in 2018. When I went to California this past summer I was lucky enough to have time spent at the beach and Disneyland. I also loved hiking in Colorado and I got to see so much, which is so amazing. I also loved Universal Studios because it’s much more tame than Disneyworld and Harry Potter world was so perfect. We had the perfect hotel and it was steps away from the park. It was awesome.

My favorite vacation that I have ever been on was when I went to Florida when I was around eight years old. I went with my grandma, grandpa, mom, and dad to a great hotel were we had stayed a week in with a great pool. Not only was the hotel great, but I went to great zoo like place where we got to pet and hold many cool animals. The weather had also been so great when I had gotten to the beach and swam. I also think that it was such a great vacation because it was one of my firsts.

My favorite vacation I have ever been on was when I went on an RV trip around the western United States. While it was crazy as it was three weeks and we had 13 people in the RV, I got to experience so many things in a short period of time. My favorite place we went was Zion National Park, as it was really beautiful with waterfalls, mountains, and valleys it was overall an amazing place. We went from Michigan all the way to Idaho and down to Arizona and then all the way back to Erie, so it was a long trip. Overall, the memories I made from that trip will stay with me forever, and it was an amazing experience.

The best vacation I’ve been on is a hard choice to make. I don’t go on many vacations, but there are two that I will say are maybe my favorite. The first was a trip I took with my family to Cleveland and we went to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We took the day and explored every exhibit and the city itself. It was one of the coolest things I’ve done, especially because I love all kinds of music and Cleveland is a beautiful city. The second was when my family flew to Florida to visit my grandparents. We went on the beach and went to Lego Land. I was kid then, so the whole experience was so fun.

My favorite vacation that I have been on was a family trip to Hilton Head last year. I absolutely loved my entire time down there. I biked everyday around the beach, which was a beautiful ride. I had a lot of really good food, which also doesn’t hurt. I was able to just hangout and watch Wimbledon a lot. My only complaint is that it felt like walking in a shower every time I went outside.
