A new school year is always full of surprises. This holds true within the faculty and staff. After a position in the science/BCIT department was left vacant, the school community welcomed Ms. Carolyn Larsen into the Cathedral Prep family.
“I am excited to join the Prep faculty,” Ms. Larsen said, “and I’m excited to use my passion for science in the classroom.”
Ms. Larsen attended Edinboro University for her undergraduate in Biology and Pre-PA and got a Master’s in Physiology and Pharmacology from the University of Florida. Ms. Larsen is teaching AP and academic physics, a core class for seniors, as well as an engineering class, an elective open to all students. Ms. Larsen wanted to become a teacher here at Prep due to the school’s reputation.
“Cathedral Prep puts out amazing kids,” Ms. Larsen said. “These kids go off to become very successful in whatever field they might go into.”
Ms. Larsen was challenged with taking on these challenging courses in the middle of the first quarter. Now that she has had some time to settle in, Ms. Larsen said her first couple weeks teaching have been amazing.
“The teachers have been nothing but supportive and accommodating,” Ms. Larsen said, “All of my classes have been amazing as well.”
Ms. Larsen has been able to take her background in science and keep the attention and interest of her classes. Her students agree that she has made a good first impression.
“Ms. Larsen has taken on an admirable positive attitude about jumping right into teaching challenging courses,” said senior Ellie Brugger, “I look forward to seeing what the rest of the school year brings in physics.”
