Cathedral Prep’s community is built on a foundation of outgoing students and kids who get involved. The student participation in extracurriculars, clubs, and activities is very high at Prep. The Rambler’s Managing Editor, Dominick Scarpino, is a great example of one such student.
“He shows up every meeting and he always has something to say,” said Shane Green, a member of Prep’s Book Club. “He’s funny, and he’s genuinely one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. He speaks beyond his years.”
Dominick participates in many of the extracurricular activities and clubs offered at Prep. In addition to Journalism, he is a member of the National Honors Society, Student Council, Book Club, Gaming Club, Yearbook, and he is President of the Chess Club.
“I like to get involved, and I get to do things that I enjoy,” Dominick said. “Prep offers me unique opportunities that I wouldn’t have gotten if I had gone to a different school.”
Dominick chose to attend Cathedral Prep because he believes it has the best education available in Erie. He began taking classes at Prep in the Eighth Grade Honors Program. Dominick is a high achieving student, taking dual-enrollment classes at Gannon. He currently plans to attend Penn State Behrend with a dual major in English and History after graduation.
Dominick’s friends describe him as a good friend and good student.
“Mr. Scarpino can be described many ways: intelligent, informed, and an all-around nice guy,” said fellow senior Michael Duffy. “He is always fun to talk to and very helpful in numerous subjects. For a friend, I couldn’t ask for much better.”
Dominick says that Prep makes him feel at home, and he would recommend the school to incoming students.
“The environment we’ve created with the combined school is really great,” Dominick said. “The students, teachers, and faculty are like a family.
