Maria Bruschi, a junior at Cathedral Prep, has been able to make a mark both academically and through her involvement in extracurricular activities. As a junior editor for The Rambler, Prep’s student newspaper, Maria has still been able to have multiple athletic and academic commitments while still keeping up with her editorial responsibilities.
Maria, a member of the school’s soccer team and swim coach for Blessed Sacrament, is heavily involved in Prep’s community. She is also part of the National Honor Society, serves as a class officer, and is an active member in the Green Team, Outreach Club, and Baking Club. On top of these activities, she’s a dual enrollment student at Gannon University. This unique opportunity has been able to help her greatly.
“Being a dual enrollment student pushes me a lot more,” Maria said. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s helped me learn time management and perseverance.”
Despite her busy schedule, Maria has learned how to use her time wisely, often utilizing her time on the bus after games or her weekends to work on a project or any homework. She gives credit to Prep’s supportive environment and their sense of community for helping her stay motivated and challenging her academically.
“There’s a positive competitive atmosphere here,” Maria said. “Everyone pushes each other to achieve their best, and that’s helped me grow as both a student and a person.”
One of her most memorable moments at Prep came when she was faced with hardships in Math. Although she was struggling initially, Maria was able to get help from a tutor and was able to turn her grades around. She was able to the show the resilience and perseverance Prep taught her.
“Prep has taught me that even when things feel overwhelming, I can push through and succeed,” she said, reflecting on the lessons she’s learned during her time at Cathedral Prep.
