Mr. Achille been teaching math for 46 years, starting in 1979. He currently teaches Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Trigonometry.
In addition to the classes he teaches, Mr. Achille was the head of the math department for a long time. He is the freshman class advisor, and he has coached a variety of sports in the past: basketball, football, baseball, and golf.
When Mr. Achille graduated from Gannon, he didn’t know what career he was going to enter, saying that he didn’t originally have a passion for teaching. This changed for him when his friends, who were teachers at Prep, reached out and told him he should apply. He has been teaching at Prep ever since.
When Mr. Achille first started his career at Prep, he had a lot of mentors who told him to be open and upfront with the students, to hold them accountable for their actions.
As a teacher, Mr. Achille is enthusiastic and likes to keep students alive in class by asking them questions. He offers help to students who are struggling during many different times: before school, after school, or during their study halls.
“The satisfaction of teaching the students, especially the ones that struggle,” Mr. Achille said. “I’ll do whatever I can to help students that struggle in math”.
One of Mr. Achille’s achievements is winning the Golden Apple Award from channel 24 in the 2019-2020 school year. Additionally, he is looking forward to his retirement this year on June 5.
Mr. Achille says his favorite aspect of Prep is the interactions with the students.
“I like to support the students, not just as students at Prep,” he said. “I’m interested in what they do in their spare time.”
In his free time, Mr. Achille enjoys golfing, bowling, and going to casinos. He is currently on a bowling team and likes to “win money instead of lose it” when going to casinos.
As a piece of advice to students, he said, “Work hard and pay attention. Your high school years go so fast.”
