Cathedral Prep’s juniors recently had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the college experience at Gannon University, also known as “Gannon Day.” The day was designed to introduce students to potential career paths and provide information about college life.
The day began with all of Prep’s juniors gathering at Gannon for an engaging presentation. Gannon representatives shared important information about Gannon, most notably the school’s commitment to helping all their students have the college life they want. Gannon spoke about helping students find what they want to major in as well as supporting them when they decide to change their major. The presentation also covered many more ways Gannon supports students in their academic and professional journeys.
Following the presentation, students were divided into three groups, each rotating through different parts of the university to explore specific fields of study. Juniors got to visit the Morosky College of Health Professions and Sciences, where they learned about careers in health sciences. They discussed some of the different health-related majors that Gannon has to offer and their importance.
Juniors also explored the A.J. Palumbo Academic Center, where they were taught about the applied intelligence major. Students learned about the role of intelligence analysis and how it can lead to many different careers like national security, business, and law enforcement. The session provided a unique look into how data and technology shape modern intelligence work.
The third stop for Juniors was the opportunity to visit the I-HACK building, where they talked about 3D printing and engineering. They showcased the designs and creations college students had made with 3D printing. They also talked to the students about how with engineering you can create advancements in businesses and technology.
Mr. McCoy, a theology teacher at Prep and former Gannon graduate, thought Gannon Day was great and mentioned how the school had even improved since his graduation at Gannon.
“I noticed several improvements and innovations at the school,” McCoy said. “The tour did an excellent job of highlighting Gannon’s key features and established aspects, while also demonstrating the university’s ability to adapt as a higher learning institution.”
To wrap up the day, students were treated to an all-you-can-eat lunch at Gannon’s cafeteria, where they experienced campus dining firsthand. The event was both educational and enjoyable for students. Students left with a better understanding of college life and potential career paths.
