At the start of this new school year, Cathedral Prep introduces Mr. James Duke, the new Assistant Principal. After just one month, many already can say he is a great fit for the school.
Mr. Duke has a strong background in school and sports. He went to a Catholic grade school and high school. He played football and basketball in high school. He then went to the University of Akron to study education. Mr. Duke started as a teacher and coach, and became an assistant principal when he was only 28 years old.
“Cathedral Prep reminds me of the high school I went to,” Mr. Duke said. “It’s not just about school or sports. It’s about helping students grow in every way.”
The staff at Prep are happy to have Mr. Duke join the team. He has already made a good impression.
Principal Mrs. Seip said he is “strong and capable.”
Mr. Duke’s impression of the school and the new workplace couldn’t have been greater for him. He has had no trouble fitting right in.
“It’s easy to walk into this job when the people before me did great work,” Mr. Duke said. “Everyone here really cares about this place.”
Mr. Duke also understands what many students are going through. He had teachers in high school who helped him, and now he wants to do the same.
“I wasn’t a great student, and I want to help kids who feel the same way,” Mr. Duke said. He believes the best way to help is by building good relationships with students and staff.
When he’s not at school, Mr. Duke is a college basketball referee. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, and listening to country music.
What keeps him motivated?
“The challenge of winning every day,” he said.
