Rambler soccer team ties McDowell, eyes October rematch

September 19, 2014
The Cathedral Prep Ramblers varsity soccer team took on McDowell high school in a game to benefit cancer research on Wednesday night, where money from every ticket sold was donated to cancer research. It was a pretty chilly night in September, and the atmosphere was set for a critical divisional game where the winner would be at the top of District Ten. The Ramblers and Trojans sections were going crazy at the start of the game, and local TV personality Craig Smiley set the stage right with a perfectly sang national anthem.
The Trojans got off to a quick start and scored from a free kick early in the 12th minute of the game. But, the Ramblers gained the momentum back when Keegan Farver assisted to Tommy Russo who sniped a shot past the McDowell goalkeeper. The Trojans responded back, however, by capitalizing on a bad ball cleared by the Prep defense and scoring off a shot right in front of the net. Luckily, the Prep freshman, Tommy Russo, stepped up again in the second half, and scored the equalizer off a beautiful cross by junior captain Antonio Simora.
The game went into overtime when Cathedral Prep goalkeeper Ollie Wiesner made some impressive saves to keep the Ramblers from losing. The Rambler offense looked in-sync and had some very good opportunities to score in overtime, but came up short on all chances. The game ended in a tie, but fortunately Prep(7-0-1)(0-0-1) and McDowell(3-3-1)(0-0-1) will face off again on October 7th at Dollinger Field.
