Mr. Lance Strasser, who is currently the Latin teacher at Villa Maria Academy, taught several classes at Cathedral Prep for the past several years. Beginning this year, he is teaching at Villa full time. While Mr. Strasser will be missed, the Prep Latin program continues on.This year Prep welcomed Dr. Chris Buczek as the new Latin teacher.
Dr. Buczek comes to the Erie community all the way from Rome, New York. He studied high school at Rome Free Academy and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in classics from Sienna College in Loudonville, New York. He then went on to study at the University of Buffalo and earn his master’s and Ph.D.
So far, Dr. Buczek is enjoying his move to Erie. The job opportunity was perfect for him because Latin is his favorite subject. As a new resident in the community, Dr. Buczek has a good idea of Prep, “Even though I have recently moved to Erie, I had heard very much about the outstanding reputation of Cathedral Prep. I moved out here to become a part of this wonderful community.”
It seems safe to say that he is meant to be a Rambler. Dr. Buczek enjoys taking landscape photography, taking weekend trips to interesting places, and watching Buffalo Bills Football. With the beautiful Erie sunsets and scenery, he won’t have any problem fulfilling these hobbies. Lastly, when I asked Dr. Buczek what he thinks of Cathedral Prep so far he replied, “Everyone has been incredibly friendly, and I enjoy the family-like atmosphere. The students are liking my classes. I really have enjoyed going to football games as well.”
Prep is thrilled to have Dr. Buczek on the staff at Prep this year. He brings great knowledge and wisdom to the students, and the hope is that he can be a Rambler for as long as he can. He wishes to make the Latin program at Prep the most popular class and will work until he achieves excellence. Dr. Buczek can be found on the second floor next to Mr. Flanagan’s room. Welcome to Prep!
