Here at Cathedral Prep we are lucky enough to have most of our daily needs met every single day. Unfortunately, not everyone in our city has all the necessities needed to live a healthy, sustainable life. Thanks to our Student Government we have an opportunity to give to those who are in need through the Second Harvest Food Bank Drive. The food drive started on Nov. 2 and runs through today. All non-perishable food items can be taken to your theology teacher upon collection.
You are probably thinking how can I get involved and help to make a difference? There is a very easy answer: simply donate as much as you can. The items needed are non parish able food items such as Jell-O, canned fruits, cake mixes, meats, Bisquick and any other non-refrigerated items.
When asked on why students should donate and make an effort to help, project leader Will Lewis said, “I would like to see the entire school involved in this collection. The Second Harvest Food Drive is dependent on our donations, and as Catholics I feel we are obliged to donate food to those in need. Plus it is actually very fulfilling to see your donations make a difference in our own community.”
Before you decide to forgo this drive and wait til the next, please put yourself in the shoes of the poor. Winter is approaching quickly and that means the poor will be taking their largest struggle of the year. Every item makes a difference and no donation is too small. Be sure to circle Nov. 19 on the calendar because that is the final day for bringing in your items.
