On Feb. 5, the second quarter sessions of the 2015-2016 school year took place. Quarter sessions is the time where the students who excelled in academics are recognized for their achievements. This year, the rule that formerly stated all first honor cards are awarded to students who achieved a 90-99 average range in all classes for that quarter, was changed to a 93-99 range. This cut the first honor cards down significantly, but also further separated the people who really deserve the recognition, those who got a 4.0 for the quarter.
Freshmen were awarded a total of 10 first honor cards (1 fewer than last quarter) and 50 second honor cards (8 fewer than last quarter) for a total of 60 and a class percentage of 44.78 percent. It looks like the freshmen could have used those extra points for signing and turning in the syllabus. Also, James Colvin, Jared Heidt, Jack Hilbrich, Owen Jacobson, Patrick Kelly, Alexander Kolodychak, Ryan Sweny, and Matthew Whaley were awarded a school pennant for having the highest QPA in the freshman class.
The sophomores were awarded a total of 14 first honor cards (4 more than last quarter) and 72 second honor cards (the same as last quarter) for a total of 86 and a class percentage of 61.87 percent. The sophomore class achieved the highest percentage of students with honor cards this past quarter. Also, their top students with the highest QPA were John Hagerty and Christopher Parks.
The juniors were awarded a total of 12 first honor cards (4 more than last quarter) and 52 second honor cards (1 more than last quarter) for a total of 64 and a class percentage of 52.89 percent. Once again, Andrew Haverly was awarded for having the highest QPA in the junior class.
Last, but certainly not least, was the senior class. They were awarded a total of 8 first honor cards (4 more than last quarter) and 53 second honor cards (17 less than last quarter) for a total of 61 honor cards and a class percentage of 38.61 percent. The seniors achieved the lowest percentage of student honor cards. It seems that senioritis has officially hit the seniors. However, Joseph Redinger tops the list of those seniors who continues to work hard. He achieved the highest QPA in the senior class for the second time this year.
The quarter sessions guest speaker was Mr. Mike Mischler, director of special projects and head varsity football coach. Mischler was a graduate of the Prep Class of 1987 and he spoke very highly about the effect that Prep has had on his life. He left the students with great tips on how to be great Catholic men and thrive in the world. As the head coach of the Rambler football team, Mischler has been very successful, winning state championships in 2000 and 2012.
