New York City is a metropolitan area that has a population of around 8 million people. In this 8 million you have a vast array of socio-economic backgrounds, different religions, different races, and most definitely different political backgrounds. In short you have people there like Donald Trump, and other people like Bernie Sanders. You have slick-backed, Hugo Boss suit-wearing Wall Street Republicans and you have the rainbow shirt, long haired, Whole Foods Co-op Democrats. It’s called the Big Apple for a reason, because it’s a big city, and it has a lot of big personalities.
Yesterday there were youthful protestors outside of the New York City GOP’s annual Gala, which featured speakers like candidates John Kasich and Ted Cruz, and also hometown favorite Donald Trump. But the protestors weren’t there to decry mellow John Kasich, or “Lyin'” Ted Cruz, rather they were there to deliberately attack none other than Donald J. Trump. The protestors called him fascist, the reincarnation of Hitler, the end of America, and racist. When asked by Fox News field reporter Jesse Watters why they didn’t like him or what specifically made him fascist, he was met with answers such as “ummmm…he is hateful.” These type of answers were common responses to Watters’ questions.
I get it. I do, I really do. Trump has said some extremely questionable things. Things by which many people could have taken offense to. Describing certain immigrants as “rapists” and “criminals” was most likely not the smartest move in the book. But is he a hateful person? Is he a fascist? Is he actually the reincarnation of Hitler?
No.
Yes he has said some comments which are race charged, and that can be attacked for being racist. But the charge of him being a fascist and Hitler-esque are baseless and phony comments.
Hitler rose to power through brute force. He literally had men burn down the German version of the Capital building, the Reichstag, and blamed it on his political competitions. He never was elected to public office, nor wanted any part in an election. Is this what Trump is doing? Hitler ordered the murder of thousands of competitors. Is this what Trump is doing? Hitler vowed to eradicate the entire Jewish population, meaning murder them. Is this what Trump wants to do? Hitler wanted to wage war against the entire world, and refused to work with other nations. Is this what Trump wants to do? Hitler was against free and fair trade, and advocated for total control by the government and influence by the government on businesses. Is this what Trump wants to do?
The answer to every single one of those questions is no. Donald Trump is certainly not the most polished candidate, and I personally disagree with his immigration plan of deportation. But let me be clear, this is American politics. He is playing to his audience. Veteran Reporter Geraldo Rivera has said “that Trump is much more moderate”, than people may believe. He is not a fascist; a fascist wants authoritative control and complete control. Trump has made clear that he will do the exact opposite. He will not isolate the United States but rather “cut deals” and remain “neutral” on Israel and Palestine to resolve conflicts. He has been the biggest opponent to executive orders which display his distaste for extreme presidential power. This is an example that goes totally contrary to the “Hitler” and “fascist” words people use to describe him.
Personally I’m not a Trump supporter, but I can realize that these claims are untrue. Trump needs to be more polished, and he needs to watch what he says more, but please be weary of the believability of these protestors and the claims they spew out, because they are simply untrue.
