Ms. Phelps is the new freshmen English teacher as well as the new yearbook adviser at Cathedral Prep. Originally from the Erie area, Ms. Phelps was previously a high school English teacher for students with severe trauma in their lives. She is also a yoga and dance teacher when she is not educating the students at Cathedral Prep.
This passion for teaching and being around children has been with Ms. Phelps since she was a child. She recalled the time she would make her friends play “school” with her, and how she had to be the teacher. She loved it so much she began teaching dance when she was only 11 years old.
Ms. Phelps attended Edinboro University and obtained her B.S.Ed. in 7-12 English Education in order to become a teacher. She is planning on obtaining her M.Ed. this December from Edinboro University as well. Ms. Phelps has only one sibling, a younger sister. She has many things she likes to do in her free time, including practicing yoga, mixing essential oils, keeping up on her fantasy football league, and traveling.
When asked why she came to teach at Cathedral Prep, Ms. Phelps quickly responded, “because I knew of the wonderful students, how academically driven they are, and I wanted to be a part of it. I want to make a difference in the lives of the students here, and I am so proud of all my students.”
She has loved her time at Prep so far and has been blown away by how kind, welcoming, and helpful all of the students and staff have been towards her. Her excitement has grown each day at Prep, especially after attending her first Prep rally which she proclaimed was “pretty awesome!”
Prep senior David Tullio is pleasantly surprised about how great of a yearbook teacher Ms. Phelps is, even in her first month on the job. “I get so excited to see her every day and work on a masterpiece that the whole school can enjoy together,” he said.
Freshman Luke Misko, who is in Ms. Phelps’ honors English class, echoed David’s sentiments, “She is always in a vibrant mood, which sparks her students to want to learn every day.” Luke’s favorite part of her class is when they meditate for about 30 minutes every Thursday. He said this allows the students to relax and release the stress they experience throughout the school day.
Ms. Phelps loves helping others and is dedicated to allowing her students to become the best versions of themselves. She is always available for her students if they ever need help with anything. If you see Ms. Phelps at all throughout the school day, make sure to welcome her to Prep. She is a spectacular addition to the staff here at Cathedral Prep and her joyful attitude will definitely rub off on everyone who talks to her.
