The Cathedral Prep football team beat McDowell by a score of 29-26 this past Friday, Oct. 4, at McDowell’s home field. The Ramblers came for a win, and they were going to stop at nothing to get it. The Prep football team was extremely motivated by coaching, the student body’s support, and the severity of this rivalry matchup.
Several players on the team made key contributions. Quarterback Collin Johnson threw for 203 yards with 9 of 13 passes completed. Jaelen Carson had two receiving touchdowns, Jack Oedekoven added another touchdown. Jaelen also rushed for another touchdown, giving him 3 total. Prep locked things down on offense with the great arm of Johnson and the trust in his big receivers.
Jaelen had one catch in particular that secured the game for the Ramblers. In the 4th quarter with 3:25 left on the clock, Jaelen caught a 37-yard pass that would put the Ramblers up 27-26. Jaelen referred to this go ahead touchdown as “a dream come true.” Johnson found success on the 2-point conversion with the next play, which made the score 29-26 in favor of Prep. In the end, X’Zonder Goodwin had an interception that took the rest of the life out of the McDowell football team to seal the victory.
Prep versus McDowell is always a great rivalry matchup to watch, and it is exciting to see the Ramblers come out on top. “We haven’t lost to McDowell and we weren’t going to let it happen our senior year,” said senior quarterback Collin Johnson. “For the rest of our lives we can let the score speak for itself.”
