Mrs. Quinn is a well known teacher at Prep, as she teaches three different levels of math, which corresponds to three different grade levels. Although she mainly teaches the advanced math students, Mrs. Quinn is seen standing outside her classroom making sure everything is in order, and of course, saying hi to students. As well as teaching a wide variety of math courses, Mrs. Quinn is a senior class advisor and heavily involved in many activities that the seniors take part in. She has been teaching at Prep for six years and enjoys it more and more each year. 

Mrs. Quinn teaches Advanced Pre Calculus, AP Calculus, as well as Honors and AP Statistics. Although she enjoys teaching each class, stats is deemed the favorite of the three. “I like teaching statistics more than the other two because of the real world application that comes with it. You find stats in everyday things,” she said.

Mrs. Quinn also loves her students, but when asked which grade level she enjoys teaching more, she went with the seniors. “By the time most of the seniors are in stats, I will have had them for three years,” she said. “I feel closer to those students and can relate to them more often than my sophomores or juniors.” 

Teaching at Prep brings many joys to the faculty, including Mrs. Quinn. When asked what her favorite part of teaching at Prep was, she had two responses. 

“I like the Catholic aspect of it,” she said. “Being in a private school and being able to practice the faith on a weekly basis is much better than my past teaching experiences.” She always likes that Prep is single sex education, “which eliminates all the boy and girl drama in school.” 

Although there are many good things that come from teaching at Prep that does not mean it does not come with a few difficulties. 

“Trying to come up with creative lessons that keep young men engaged in class is a challenge that I face,” she said. “Trying to find things that are not too corny and at the same time to peek their interest can be tough at times.” 

Mrs. Quinn was not always a teacher during her career. She worked at a textbook company that produced some of the math textbooks that students use today, but decided to change to teaching because of her love for presenting the material to students.

“I have always liked math, and I wanted to be able to help students understand that math does not have to be difficult if it is presented and practiced in the right way.”

As the school year begins to wind down during this time of remote access learning, we asked Mrs. Quinn about her favorite time of the school year, not just this year but each year. 

“The beginning of the school year is my favorite time of year,” she said. The students come in with a fresh mind and are more eager to learn in the beginning before the year starts to drag on and they lose that fresh interest.”
