The North Allegheny Tigers hosted their annual Tiger Classic water polo tournament this past weekend. The first game for the Ramblers was a division matchup against North Allegheny. Although Prep managed to outscore the Tigers 6-5 after the first quarter, it was not enough as Prep lost 9-6. Zach Miller managed to put 5 goals in for the Ramblers.
The second game of the day the Ramblers faced Napoleon. Prep got their first win of the tournament in a 16-2 blowout. Steve Bretz put in the hat trick while Joe Marin, Rex Riley and Tom and Tony Squeglia all put in two goals apiece.
North Penn was the Ramblers third opponent of the tournament. Steve Bretz put in 4 goals during this game. Zach Miller also had three goals while Anthony Paolella scored twice. Despite these contributions Prep fell short and lost 17-11.
The day ended with a game against Cumberland Valley. Cumberland Valley was able to defeat the Ramblers 16-11. During the game Zach Miller put in four goals while Daniel Bauman recorded the hat trick. Rex Riley also scored two goals.
The Ramblers ended the day with a disappointing 1-3 finish. “I thought we played much better than we have the previous two weekends. However, still not good enough,” said senior captain Steve Bretz. “If this team is going to win states, like we should, we’re going to need to play as a team on both sides of the ball.”
The Ramblers water polo team will look to get back on track when they face McDowell next Tuesday at Penn State Behrend.
