The winter has finally arrived in Erie, Pa., and what better way to spend it than by staying warm and watching Netflix. With so many new movies and TV shows on Netflix it’s become more difficult to choose a new title to watch. However, I have put much thought into this new title, and I don’t think it will disappoint. The movie I am picking is Hot Rod.
Hot Rod, which was released in 2007, features a cast with a mix of Saturday Night Live stars and a few members from the comedy musical group The Lonely Island. The film follows the life of an Evil Knievel wannabe Rod Kimble. Rod is played by the former SNL star Andy Samburg. Also in the cast is the hilarious Will Arnett and fellow SNL cast member Bill Hader.
Throughout the whole movie Rod is trying to achieve his goal of being a stuntman like his father. He never met his father, but he has a picture of him and Rod wants so badly to be like his father who died before Rod was born. However, Rod has a twisted relationship with his stepfather. Rod feels that he must beat his father in a fight in order to earn his respect. Throughout the film there are hilarious fighting scenes between the two.
Rod performs many daring stunts in the movie and most of them end up in failure. A reason for this failure could be that he is performing these stunts on an old Moped. Through these failures Rod believes that he can achieve the most daring stunt of his life, jumping over 15 buses. Rod is raising money for this stunt so he can cure his stepfather’s sudden illness. He decides that if he can cure his illness he can finally beat him up and earn his respect. Overall this movie is a great watch if you’re in the mood for something funny.
