This past weekend the Cathedral Prep water polo team ended their season with an impressive run at states. The water polo state championship was held at Wilson High School in Reading Pennsylvania. The first game for the Ramblers was against the home team, the Wilson Bulldogs. The Ramblers squeezed out a win with a score of 9-8. Michael Rahner had 4 goals, Robbie Lupo had 3, both Ethan Neff and Connor Moritz scored once, and goalie Guy Glendenning blocked a 5-meter penalty shot to secure the win and save the day. When asked about his save, The Beast (Glendenning) said, “It was only a 25 percent chance of saving the penalty shot, but I overcame the odds and protected my goal.”
The next day the Ramblers played in the semifinals game against North Penn. The Ramblers started out strong and had a good opening run. The Ramblers ended with a score of 3-0 in the beginning of the first quarter. Unfortunately, the Ramblers lost with a final score of 7-10. The team would then go on to face LaSalle High School, winning and finishing with a score of 11-8. However, the team finished with a third place finish at States. Several of the players were selected for All-State selections: 1st Team – Mike Rahner, 2nd Team – Robbie Lupo & Ethan Neff, Honorable Mention – Mark Miller.
Overall, it was a great season and a great finish for the water polo team.
