Last weekend, Cathedral Prep theater treated the audience to an exciting production of Treasure Island. This show follows Jim Hawkins on a dangerous quest to find buried treasure, as he comes to face to face with pirates, rebellion, and betrayal.
The entire show was filled with entertainment and represents the hard work and dedication of those that performed on stage and behind the scenes.
One of the most impressive parts of the show was the set design. The use of a large, creative piece of scenery allowed for the creation of both a pirate ship and a fortress while allowing easy scene transitions and making onstage action even more thrilling.
In addition to the props and staging enhancing the visual appeal of the show, the common interaction between the actors and the audience made for an even higher level of engagement by the audience. The treasure maps given to members of the audience prior to the show also allowed for a better level of engagement as it allowed them to feel as though they were also part of the adventure, and not just a spectator.
The costumes were another highlight, and the pirate costumes were very well done for the characters. The character Long John Silver was one of the main highlights of the show. He was acted by Finn Paterson ’26, and he was great at portraying Long John Silver’s character with a strong presence on stage. He even used a Scottish accent, which made him memorable and made him entertaining but slightly intimidating as he was the villain in the story. Riley Hanlon ’26, also did a great job acting as Jim Hawkins, and he portrayed the courageous and curious nature of Jim Hawkins.
There were many students involved in the production and many were part of the cast, which included Lauren Proper ’26 as Ben Gunn, Riley Washko ‘27’ as Dr. Livesey, Alejandro Miranda ’26 as captain Smollett and Roman Luniewski ’26 as Squire Trelawney. Fr. Mike DeMartinis directed the show. Treasure Island was a great and exciting production that demonstrated the skills and creativity of the students from Cathedral Prep’s theater program.
