What is your favorite winter activity?

What+is+your+favorite+winter+activity%3F

It was a mild start to winter in Erie, but snow is here and more is in the forecast. With winter in full swing, our staff wrote this week about their favorite winter activities.

Kwame Anim-Somuah

My favorite winter activity is skating. Since I was six years old, every winter I would spend any minute I could on the ice. Growing up in Canada, skating is second nature to every Canadian and you really couldn’t hang out with your friends if you didn’t know how to skate. From playing hockey when I was younger to even just having a couple of laps around the homemade rinks that our neighborhood would always make, the feeling of the wind blow in your face as you glide across the ice is unforgettable.

When the winter season rolls around, I find myself in the kitchen most of the time. I feel as if it’s the perfect season for baking due to in summer it feels to warm to be baking. My grandma taught me how to bake from a very young age and the joy of baking never left me. I love to put on classical music as I bake and my favorite things to bake are cupcakes. Baking is my favorite winter activity, and I love sharing all the things I bake with my friends and family.

Winter may seem like there isn’t anything to do sometimes, and the only option is to stay inside. I think that just makes the things you find to do more fun, however. Finding random things to do with friends is probably my favorite winter activity, whether that means my brother turning off his traction control in his car and doing donuts or getting into snowball fights in the parking lot.

My favorite winter activity is walking in the snow. I really enjoy getting my jacket, hat, and gloves on and just going outside. The cold never really has bugged me that much. I always find that early mornings after a night of snow are quite pretty to walk. My neighborhood is also fairly isolated, so I do not have to worry about getting hit by any out-of-control cars on my walk.

My favorite activity to do with my family is go on a road trip. It’s an activity we all enjoy. We even have a playlist where we share everyone’s music to listen to for a lot of hours of travel. One of the most fun things is when we buy food and share it with each other. We also download movies and games to entertain ourselves.
