With Halloween on the horizon, the staff wrote about their favorite Halloween costumes.

The class I enjoyed the most was Spanish. I was introduced to a new language and culture, and I was captivated by it. The curriculum featured various cultural elements, such as music, art, and traditions from Spanish-speaking countries. My classmates and I watched movies, examined photographs and paintings, and explored the cultural significance of festivals like Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). This cultural immersion made Spanish class fun and interesting.

My favorite class that I have taken is Creative Writing. Creative Writing exposed me to new styles of writing, helped me develop my own writing process, and gave me the courage to share my work with others. Being able to write my own stories and poems allowed me to experiment with certain ideas and styles of writing, which was quite enriching. Sharing my work with others helped me to get many other perspectives on my work and helped me consider things I did not before about writing. Taking a Creative Writing was a fun class that opened my eyes to the many ways that an idea can be developed while also offering some structure to the writing process.

My favorite class that I have ever taken would have to be my weightlifting class that I took sophomore year. This class was great because I not only learned more about lifting and nutrition, but also gained muscle mass from the lifts that we would have daily. I used this class as an area for self improvement and would always look forward to it every day. It gave me a break from mental/analytical work and let me branch out physically.

My favorite class I’ve ever taken has to be 9th grade Theology. It was an honors class taught at Mercyhurst by a priest, Fr. McElrath. Fr McElrath was a very eccentric and humorous person. He often had inside jokes with just our class, and seemed to play into our jokes. He was one of those teachers where students he taught in their freshman year, who were now seniors, would stop in during our class, and then he would end up telling a funny story about that student in his class. It seemed he would engage into our jokes at times, and his interesting nature ended up making things ten times funnier. He was also amazing at teaching. Everything he ever made us take notes on was on the test; no tricks, no left out lessons. He would go into lots of depth in his lectures, tell three stories, and still somehow have us write enough notes to take a test on them the next day. He loved to give us group assignments, and we’d have to choose option A or B. Then at the end of class we would have to go up in front of the class to talk about your findings. The funny thing is, he didn’t give lots of time, and then he would ask us the most complex morality questions about our decision, and we almost never had an answer. In all, it was the most fun, yet in depth classes I have ever taken.

My favorite class a was human body systems class. It was my sophomore year, and it was the first medical science class I’ve ever taken. It’s what helped me get into the medical field. Her class was really fun and there was a lot of hands-on experiences, which helped us all learn a lot. We learned a variety of things that goes on in the human body and got to see it firsthand with dissections or medical technology that people use in the medical field. Her interactive way of learning helped me remember what she was teaching better and also have a better understanding of it.

My favorite class I have taken is Psychology. I find it fascinating to learn about the brain. My favorite part of the class is learning about different mental disorders and doing case studies on them. I would highly recommend the course to anyone at Prep.
