At Cathedral Prep, students in different classes are using Lent as a time to grow. Six students at Prep spoke about what they gave up this year and why.
Joseph Bernatowicz, Class of ‘26, decided to do something different than giving something up this year.
“Instead of giving up something for Lent. I’ve challenged myself to do five random acts of kindness a day,” Joseph said. “I did this because I feel the world needs more kindness and this is one way to contribute to change.”
Joseph Ott, Class of ‘26, is working on discipline.
“I gave up procrastinating,” Joseph said. “I’ve been really struggling with procrastinating over the years, and now I want to try and give myself the chance to change.” He hopes this choice will help him stay focused and improve his productivity.
Caitlyn Holden, Class of ‘26, changed her drink of choice.
“I gave up energy drinks,” Caitlyn said. “I’ve become too reliant on them, and so I’ve switched to just drinking water instead.” She wants to start depending less on caffeine over time.
Mason Gregor, Class of ‘28, wants to be smart about his spending.
“I gave up on spending money on things I don’t need,” Mason said. “I found myself always spending my money on things that weren’t really important, and I want the chance to start saving my money.”
Matthew Giancola, Class of ‘26, is breaking a habit.
“I gave up scrolling on social media late at night,” Matthew said. “It’s been a bad habit of mine, and Lent was a good time to confront that bad habit and try and give it up.”
Ben Camera, Class of ‘27, is focused on his health.
“I gave up fast food,” Ben said. “I wasn’t getting any benefit from it, and it gets expensive.”
These students at Prep are using Lent as an opportunity to better themselves and be at their full potential.
